Bucs Coach: The Plan We Had Wasn’t Working

Orlando Pirates edged Maritzburg United 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium on
Friday evening to pick up their second win of the season in the DStv
Premiership.

Goals from Monnapule Saleng and Terrence Dzvukamanja were enough to
secure the three points for the Soweto giants.

Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara was pleased with the result, but
admitted that the team’s performance in the first half was not up to the
standard.

He called for an improvement ahead of next weekend’s Soweto derby.

“We tried to fix the positioning of our players offensively and
defensively at halftime and from there we think that the team improved in
order to be more organised,” Almenara said.

He added that the team’s performance in the first half was not up to the
standard, but the goal before halftime helped the team to reorganise and
gave them more confidence.

“It’s always welcome the goal before halftime because of the mental part
but at the same time we’re not happy with the performance because the plan
that we had was not working as much as we wanted,” Almenara explained.

The Spanish tactician was, however, pleased with the result and the three
points, which will give the team more confidence ahead of the Soweto derby
next weekend.
