Exclusive: Middendorp Lashes Out at Referee!

On Sunday evening, a PSL match official was accused of swearing at a
coach during a DStv Premiership match in Cape Town. After Swallows FC lost
to Cape Town City 2-0 at the DHL Stadium, Ernst Middendorp, the away team
coach, expressed his displeasure with some of the officiating decisions.

The match ended with Swallows having nine players, as Keegan Allan and
Bongani Sam were sent off from separate incidents. The home team also had
their own sending off, as captain Thamsanqa Mkhize was shown a second
yellow card.

After the match, Middendorp followed referee Cedric Muvhali through the
tunnel and demanded answers for some of the decisions. The German coach
accused the match official of swearing at him, saying, “I asked you
politely, then you swear at me. Why are you swearing at me? I ask
politely. Why is it not possible to answer a simple, easy, polite
question?”

At the post-match press conference, Middendorp elaborated on the incident,
saying, “I asked the referee in the tunnel politely, I asked, ‘What
happened on the other side with the red card for Bongani?’. He started
shouting at me straight away. It’s obviously not allowed anymore to
communicate with the officials.”
