With Kaizer Chiefs’ inconsistent form this season, club legend Abel
‘Chacklas’ Shongwe has urged the club to give head coach Arthur Zwane the
necessary support in order to turn the team’s fortunes around.
After the Soweto giants’ 0-0 draw against TS Galaxy on Sunday, some
disgruntled supporters have called for changes to the technical team. So
far in the 2022/23 season, Zwane has led the team to only eight wins from
19 fixtures, while four matches have been drawn and seven have been lost,
leaving Chiefs in fifth place on the log.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Shongwe pleaded with the club to give Zwane a
chance and to help him by getting quality players. He said, “Let the club
give Arthur Zwane a chance and Chiefs must try and assist the coach by
getting him good and quality players. We are doing the right thing by
adding the young boys into the set-up but let’s add the young players with
experience. That’s what I’m asking of Chiefs that the club must help
Arthur by getting him good players.”
Shongwe also expressed his confidence in Zwane’s ability to take the team
to greater heights, saying, “I can see that the team is starting to shape
up a little bit now and that’s because Arthur is on a mission. I’m
confident that the coach is aiming to take Chiefs to greater heights. I’m
happy that he is getting the support from the chairman and management.”
Kaizer Chiefs will face Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup on Friday, 15
September as they look to turn their fortunes around.
