Orlando Pirates will have the chance to win their second trophy this
season when they take on second-tier side All Stars in the Nedbank Cup
last 32 clash on Saturday. Despite the opportunity to give other players
opportunities in the starting team, head coach Jose Riveiro has confirmed
that he will not be rotating the team.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the game, Riveiro explained that
the team’s large squad and the varying scenarios faced each week are the
main factors for changes in the team. “We don’t do rotation, we don’t
rotate players, I explained before, big squad, a lot of quality and every
week we start with a different scenario in terms of players suspended,
players injured. Different opportunities because of the way the opponent
plays and the moment of your players, so if I change two, three, four
players on Saturday, it’s not because we’re rotating, it’s because we have
certain needs.”
Riveiro went on to explain that there is no reason to rotate the team as
they are currently playing only one match per week and they want to put
their best foot forward to qualify for the next round. “So like I said,
we’re playing one game per week at the moment, so there’s no need to
rotate, we’re going with the intention to go through to the next round, we
will select the players for that mission and not because we’re rotating.
There’s no rotation at Orlando Pirates, let’s put it this way,” he
concluded.
