Why the Chiefs Coach Cannot Take Risks

Kaizer Chiefs will face Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup last 32 this
evening, with coach Arthur Zwane aware that this is the club’s final
chance for silverware this season. The Amakhosi have kept a clean sheet in
their last two matches, and are unlikely to make changes to their back
four, with Brandon Petersen set to start ahead of Itumeleng Khune.

Maritzburg have improved under the tutelage of Fadlu Davids, and have
been backed in the transfer market with the addition of players such as
Wayde Jooste, Bradley Cross, Kwame Peprah and Jose Ali Meza. While some
coaches are tempted to give young players an opportunity in the Nedbank
Cup, Zwane could go with his experienced campaigners, especially in
midfield where they need to stop some of Maritzburg’s dangermen, like
Karim Kimvuidi.

Zwane will need to come out with his strongest line-up, and hope they
deliver, to ensure their season does not end in disappointment yet again.
There is also the pressure of ensuring that the management and supporters
believe that he is still the right man to lead the club, so his players
are under pressure to deliver.
