SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has revealed the club’s plans to
handle the foreign quota, following the recent departures of Guily Manziba
and Benson Shilongo, with Thatayaone Ditlhokwe set to join Kaizer Chiefs.
In January, the club brought in Mamour Niang from Senegal, leaving two
spots available.
Ghampani Lungu, the Zambian international, is one of the other players
registered as a foreigner in the team, with Ditlhokwe set to open up a
spot when he leaves to join Amakhosi at the end of the season. Matthews
told the Siya crew: “We freed up a foreign spot because Manziba went to
AmaZulu. We have a free foreign spot there. Benson left, so we have a free
foreign spot there. One of those spots is going to be going to an
attacking player and one of those spots will be going to a centre back. We
know what we are looking for and we’ve got four key positions that we are
looking to fill.”
The CEO added that the club would be “pretty stable” and that there
wouldn’t be a “mass exodus” of players. He also said that SuperSport would
“feed off our DDC in the the wider fringe areas of the team and we are
going to build a nice spine with the more seasoned campaigners.”
Shilongo, a Namibian international, left SuperSport without kicking a ball
in a competitive match.
