Khune Reminds Chiefs Fans They ‘Recommended’ Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has asked supporters to be
patient with the club’s current coach, Steve Komphela, despite the team’s
lack of success this season. Khune made the plea ahead of the Soweto Derby
on Monday, 16 October, when speaking to journalists at a press conference.

“All I have to say to the supporters is that, yes, we’ve been asking for
patience but again they need to understand that there’s been different
coaches in the past seasons because most of the time it is what they
recommend to the management,” Khune said.

The veteran goalkeeper also noted that European clubs tend to be more
patient with their coaches and players, as they understand that it takes
time to build a successful team. He believes that with a bit more time,
Kaizer Chiefs should be able to win every trophy on offer next season.

“But it’s never that easy and it won’t take just one day for that to turn
around. It will take some time, so if you have to look at European clubs
they are patient with their coaches, they are patient with their players,”
he said. “Because they know the team is building. Yes, we have not been
winning silverware but the squad now compared to the previous squads, I
think is ready to compete. If we can just be given more time, come next
season I think we should be able to win everything that is on offer.”
