Former Chiefs Attacker Opens Up: Football Became Boring for Me

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Bhongolwethu Jayiya has revealed the reason
behind his prolonged absence from the game, three years after his last
professional kick.

The 32-year-old parted ways with Amakhosi in 2019 and, unlike his former
teammates, he has not been snapped up by another club.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Jayiya explained that football had become
boring for him. “The honest truth? Football became boring for me. There
was no longer that interest for me,” he said.

“Once the interest in football goes away, then there’s no point of me
staying there, because then I’ll be resenting people instead of playing my
game. So, rather leave it on a high, where everything is still okay.”

When asked if he had decided to call time on a career that saw him turn
out for Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Cape Town
City and Chiefs, Jayiya said he had not yet made a decision.

“If it [the will to continue playing] is there, I’ll never know. After a
year, if something can rise up again, I can go back. It’s not about me
leaving football completely. It’s just that the love for the game at that
time was gone,” he explained.

The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker may have stepped away from the game for
now, but he has not ruled out a return in the future.
