Retired midfielder Jabu Maluleke believes that Mamelodi Sundowns’
dominance of the PSL will inevitably come to an end. Maluleke, now a coach
at SuperSport United, is watching as Sundowns are on their way to winning
a sixth consecutive Premiership title, showing just how much they are
currently in a league of their own.
“Football has changed so much compared to before. Before you could see
Chiefs, Pirates, SuperSport and at some point it was Santos winning the
league. It was different teams winning the league and the competition was
much higher compared to now whereby Sundowns is dominating,” Maluleke told
the Siya crew.
“Right now, it’s their time and they just have to enjoy it because you
know how football goes. It doesn’t last forever. Three or four years down
the line, maybe SuperSport is winning the league. That’s how football is.
It comes with many surprises. There was a time when Pirates won a treble.
It was their time.”
Maluleke believes that Sundowns’ current run of success is due to the fact
that they have the luxury of rotating their squad due to the gap they have
in the league which gives them enough room for error.
While Sundowns’ dominance is currently unquestioned, Maluleke believes
that it is only a matter of time before another club rises to the top and
takes their place.
