Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face Angolan side Petro de Luanda in the
African Football League (AFL) this Saturday, and with the Carling Knockout
and players returning from international duty, coach Rulani Mokwena will
have big decisions to make on his squad.
Before taking on Petro, Sundowns will face TS Galaxy in the Carling
Knockout last 16 at Mbombela Stadium this evening, without seven
international stars who have been away on national team duty. Ronwen
Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Aubrey Modiba,
Teboho Mokoena, Themba Zwane and Peter Shalulile have been away on
international duty, leaving Mokwena to call on some of the other stars who
have not been playing regularly.
On top of having to play a crucial knockout competition clash without his
international stars, Sundowns have to wait for the return of the Bafana
Bafana players to see what shape they are in before participating in the
AFL. Bafana are due to travel back to Johannesburg on Wednesday 13h30 and
will land at midnight, Thursday, local time, giving Sundowns little time
to prepare for the clash.
Mokwena has praised the Sundowns medical team for the work they do behind
the scenes to look after the players and this is one of those moments
where they are going to work overtime to ensure the coach has enough
options on the table to deal with the hectic schedule.
