On Wednesday, 20 December, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena
sent a heart-warming message to TS Galaxy’s Bernard Parker after he
suffered a horrific leg break in a challenge from Sundowns midfielder
Bongani Zungu during a Carling Knockout match played at the Mbombela
Stadium.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw after extra-time and was eventually decided
on penalties, with Galaxy winning 5-4. Unfortunately, the victory was
marred by Parker’s injury, which forced him off the field early in the
second half. Zungu was subsequently given a red card for the challenge.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Mokwena expressed his hope that
Parker’s injury was not as serious as it appeared and insisted that there
was no malicious intent from Zungu. “I can only wish Bernard Parker a
speedy recovery. I hope it’s not as serious as it looks,” said Mokwena.
“Knowing Bongani Zungu, I know it was not malicious, and that there was
no malicious intent behind it. The only thing that I can say is that I
wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery.”
