Riveiro Unveils Mofokeng’s Advancements Towards Premier League Club

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has expressed his belief that
Relebohile Mofokeng is ready to take on the challenge of playing in
Europe. The 18-year-old Buccaneer is currently being assessed by Premier
League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mofokeng was promoted to the first team last season, and has since
established himself as a key player in Pirates’ attack. Despite missing a
penalty that sent the Buccaneers out of the CAF Champions League, the
youngster showed maturity in the MTN8 final and when he was brought on as
a substitute against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Riveiro, who gave Mofokeng his first team debut, is convinced that the
player is ready for this next step and he is hoping that he can take the
opportunity. “He is in UK. He is having trials with Wolves,” Riveiro said
in a press conference held at the PSL offices in Parktown on Wednesday
afternoon.

“I believe he’s ready for whatever is coming,” said Riveiro when asked
about Mofokeng’s trial. “He’s in a proper age. Maybe it looks like early –
18 – but not for me. If you follow the current situation in Europe, 18,
17, 19, it’s really frequent to get your first minutes in the top teams.
You have to little by little change our vision of the youngsters. When
you’re ready, you’re ready. Even if you’re 18 or 28, you’re ready you’re
ready. We know the type of talent Rele is, and everything is in his hands
to use this opportunity.”
