Teboho Mokoena has certainly made a name for himself since joining Mamelodi Sundowns from SuperSport United in January of last year. The 26-year-old midfielder has gone from strength to strength, winning the PSL Footballer of the Season award and becoming an integral part of the senior national team. His impressive performances have seen him become vice-captain of Sundowns and he believes that he is now ‘miles ahead’ of the player he was when he first arrived at Chloorkop.
Mokoena is aware that he still has to improve if he is to maintain his place in the team and he credits Sundowns for helping him to develop both on and off the pitch.
“I’d say I am sold. I usually look back and I check where I come from and the way I used to play. Right now, I am miles ahead. Also, my mentality has changed a lot. When you get here, your mentality changes. You have to change your way of life, the way you treat people. Funny enough, when I got here, I used to greet people while sitting down. But when you get here, you must stand up (when you greet). That’s how we are taught here. It’s one of the things I was taught when I got here,” said Mokoena.
The midfielder is certainly enjoying his time at Sundowns and he is determined to help the club achieve their goal of winning the African Football League.
“Honestly, I am enjoying my football here. It’s been tough and it will always be tough because the competition will always be hard. That’s what makes us improve and keep winning on game because we want to get better every time. I am not happy as here because when I signed, I promised the chairman the Champions League. So, we are still working on that,” said Mokoena.
Mokoena’s impressive performances since joining Sundowns have certainly made a statement and he will be hoping to continue his development as he looks to help the club achieve their goal of winning the African Football League.
