Al Ahly are growing increasingly desperate to tie star attacker Percy Tau down to a new contract as his current deal nears its end. Tau originally joined the Egyptian giants in 2021 in a multimillion rand deal from Brighton & Hove Albion and his current contract is set to expire in June next year. Reports coming out of Egypt suggest that Al Ahly coach Marcell Kohler has already appealed to the club’s hierarchy to speed up the process of Tau’s new contract.
Speculation has been rife over a possible return to Europe for the Witbank-born star, however Al Ahly have been adamant in holding onto the attacker. Tau has been one of the club’s star performers in the current season, having scored four goals in five appearances in all competitions.
Tau will be instrumental in the club’s quest to lift the inaugural African Football League as they take on his former side Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the semi-finals this weekend.
