Vuyo Buthelezi, a striker from Wits University, has had an incredible journey over the last seven months. In March, he left the university to join the West Ham FC Satellite Academy, where he trained under the guidance of the Hammers coaches. Now, the lanky striker has caught the eye of the Atletico Madrid scouts, and is on the brink of joining the club’s under-19 side.
The move to the Spanish giants is a major stepping stone for Buthelezi, who has also been selected for the u17 national team by coach Vela Khumalo this year. Atletico Madrid is renowned for its academy, having developed renowned strikers like Fernando Torres and David Villa.
The 18-year-old must not be confused with Aphiwe Buthelezi, who recently landed a massive deal with Bayern Munich.
