Ndlanya’s Insight: Strategies for Chiefs to Neutralize the Threats

On Friday, Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson revealed the mandate given to him by the club. Johnson was appointed to the position this week after the Soweto giants parted ways with Molefi Ntseki.

When asked about the expectations of his role, Johnson told SuperSport, “Play the Chiefs way and the results will come. There’s no expectations, it’s just for us to prepare the team, I think we’ve got a very good team, I think we have a team that can compete.”

Chiefs’ 2-1 loss to Arrows’ was the team’s third in a row, but Johnson still felt they had enough chances to get maximum points. He said, “I think I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the boys, I thought they played well under the conditions that we come out of, the conditions of the pitch, which I think were a little bit, not bumpy but soggy in some places. But you can’t blame that, both teams were on there. The game, I thought we had a lot of clear one-on-ones in the first-half, I thought we should’ve scored some of them, we scored one after going behind.”

Johnson was confident that the team could improve, saying, “That means we were actually chasing the game but then again in the second-half we lost the ball, I think cheaply in their half, they had a counter-attack and they scored and they defended for their lives. But I’ve seen a better Chiefs than I’ve seen (today), so I think we’re gonna work on it and hopefully we’ll get it better. But the fluidity, the passing, the holding going forward is much better and we’ll see what happens in the next game.”
