On Friday, Siya sources indicated that there is an update on Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine who has been out for the last two matches due to an injury. Chaine got injured against Cape Town Spurs in the Carling Knockout Last 16 match and was replaced by Melusi Buthelezi in the first half.
The former Chippa United keeper, who has been number one in coach Jose Riveiro’s side, missed consecutive league matches against AmaZulu and Polokwane City, as a result.
While it was initially thought that the shot-stopper could be on the sidelines for a long time, indications are that the 26-year-old has made notable progress on his road to recovery.
“His injury is not as serious as it was initially thought. He has made progress and will be back sooner than expected to continue cementing his place in the starting line-up,” said the source.
The source went on to add that the competition between goalkeepers at Pirates will only help the team going forward.
“The good thing about Pirates is that they have good goalkeepers who are all capable of doing the job for the team. You can see how well Melusi has done since getting his chance and competition for places can only help the team going forward,” the source concluded.
Orlando Pirates will travel to Cape Town for their next fixture in the league to face struggling Spurs at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening. It remains to be seen whether Chaine will be fit to feature in the match.
