Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has opened up on another costly mistake by Brandon Petersen after their defeat against Golden Arrows on Friday. Amakhosi seemed to have the match under control in the first stanza, only to be undone by a mistake from Petersen which allowed Knox Mutizwa to score into an empty net. The Glamour Boys managed to respond three minutes later through an equaliser by Sifiso Hlanti, but Mutizwa restored Arrows’ lead early in the second stanza and completed his brace.
Johnson says they will try to fix the former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper’s mistakes and took the blame for all the errors they made against the KwaZulu-Natal side. “Ja, if it has happened before, then we’re gonna try and fix it but the way I look at it now he’s gonna come back, he’s made the mistake and that’s the first mistake I look at,” Johnson told journalists after the game. “Because every mistake now is my mistake. I take the blame for everything that happened (against Arrows), everything you asked me about yesterday (before the Arrows game) I wasn’t there,” he said.
Chiefs had tried to bring veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune in goal under former coach Molefi Ntseki, but the club had not fared any better and continued to concede and lose matches, as Khune was in goal when they were eliminated by AmaZulu in the first round of the Carling Knockout. There have been suggestions from supporters for Johnson to give goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma a chance.
The Glamour Boys will be back in action next Wednesday, 8 November when they host Cape Town Spurs before the big clash against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby three days later, both matches at FNB Stadium.
