Factors Behind Bartlett’s Departure: Insights into Spurs’ Decision-making

Cape Town Spurs have parted ways with head coach Shaun Bartlett after the club’s 3-1 loss to local rivals Cape Town City in the Ikapa derby on Saturday. The Urban Warriors have now lost seven consecutive games since the start of the season.

Following the defeat, Bartlett spoke of the club’s lack of movement in the transfer market, suggesting that his struggles are like asking a chef to put on a great dish without ingredients. “It’s like you’re asking a chef to put on a great dish but you don’t give him the ingredients. It’s difficult my friend, that’s the major concern at this moment in time,” Bartlett said in a press conference.

The former Bafana Bafana striker also surprisingly did not beg to be in charge of Spurs, saying that he chose the job and it was not given to him. “As a club, we’ve got to look at what is the problem in this moment in time. It’s easy to say it’s me, I’ll take the responsibility, it’s not an issue, that’s why I chose this job, nobody gave the job to me, I chose it,” he continued.

Bartlett also suggested that there are issues within the squad which need to be sorted internally. “Unfortunately I can’t disclose all the information that’s happening,” he said.

Spurs’ next game is against SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday at Athlone Stadium before the international break.
