As the 2022/23 season heads deeper into the second half, Thabo ‘Section 10’ Qalinge faces an uncertain future with AmaZulu. The former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United star has been with Usuthu since 2021, however, his contract is set to expire in June.
Qalinge and Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein were given a second chance at the Durban-based side following the arrival of head coach Romain Folz. The two had objected to having their contracts terminated after they didn’t form part of the plans for this season under the previous coach, Brandon Truter. As a result, they spent the first half of the season training with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team instead.
Close sources have indicated that Qalinge’s contract is unlikely to be renewed. “The club hasn’t said it has changed its position on him after what happened at the end of last season and as things stand, the deal is unlikely to be renewed,” said the source.
Qalinge will now have to look for a new club in the upcoming transfer window, with his future at AmaZulu up in the air.
