Chiefs Settles Mathoho Decision: Final Verdict Reached?

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to make an announcement on the future of veteran defender Erick Mathoho, with sources hinting that the 33-year-old is likely to leave Naturena after over a decade with the Soweto giants.

Mathoho’s contract with Amakhosi is set to expire in June and well-placed sources have suggested that the centre-back is unlikely to receive a new deal.

The Tshiombo-born player joined Chiefs in 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic and has been a regular in the team and for Bafana Bafana over the years. However, Mathoho has struggled for game-time this season under Arthur Zwane, making only one appearance as a last minute substitute against SuperSport United in September.

“Mathoho is as good as gone at Chiefs. It is just a matter of the club making an official announcement,” said a source. “His contract won’t be renewed and he knows that already as he has been informed. But the good thing for him is that he won’t be short of offers. There are clubs that are already showing interest in him and TS Galaxy is one of the frontrunners to sign him.”
