On Saturday, Orlando Pirates will face Venda Football Academy in the Nedbank Cup last 16.
Ahead of the game, Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro discussed the club’s priorities, which are to go all the way in the Nedbank Cup and finish second on the table in the DStv Premiership.
Riveiro believes that a club of Pirates’ stature must reach as many cup finals as possible in a season, citing their success in the MTN8 earlier in the campaign.
“We want to have the same experience and be in the final together but that’s something that will happen if we do our job against Venda, which is going to be difficult,” he said.
The Spaniard also stated that although they want to close the gap between themselves and second-placed SuperSport United, it’s important for the club to reach the final of the Nedbank Cup.
“We still have a lot of things to play until the end, it’s very important for the club and for us as a group to finish as high as possible,” he said.
“We have to see the team which is close for us in this moment to overcome and that’s our objective, we want to finish the season as high as possible and obviously have the possibility to at least be in the final.”
Riveiro concluded by saying that the club must invest in the competition to have the chance to reach the final, and that dreams are currently far from reality.
“We have dreams but the reality is that we’re far from that possibility but we wanna fight to have the chance to be in the final,” he concluded.
