Marumo Gallants have seen an improvement in their fortunes since making
changes to their technical staff at the end of last month. Insiders have
provided the latest on Dan Malesela’s future amid the improved results for
the Limpopo-based team.
“Dance” as Malesela is known in football circles, has been a notable
absence from the team’s technical bench since the end of last month. His
last match on the bench for the team was against Orlando Pirates, after
which he was placed on special leave by the club, following a string of
disappointing results.
In his absence, Raymond Mdaka, the team’s assistant coach, has led the
side to an impressive run in the CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup
respectively as the interim coach. He has been assisted by Selaotse ‘Sly’
Mosala, as well as Dylan Kerr in an advisory role.
Gallants have won all their four matches since the changes and have scored
a whopping 11 goals in the process. Sources close to the club have
indicated that the management is delighted with the turn of events and are
not looking to tamper with the winning formula.
As a result, Malesela’s future as the head coach has become seriously in
doubt, with the indications that the mentor is already assessing options
for another potential next move.
“It was unfortunate that the club couldn’t get the desired the results
under the coach (Malesela) as the team wasn’t really playing badly. It’s
one of those things that happen in football and hopefully he will do well
wherever he will be going next,” said the source.
A decision is expected in due course from the club on Malesela’s future as
the head coach.
