Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has provided an update on the
team’s left back Terrence Mashego, who is back in training with the DStv
Premiership champions. Mashego has been out of action since September last
year when he picked up an injury during the first half of the season,
making just five appearances in all competitions.
Speaking to the media during a Nedbank Cup press conference ahead of their
last 16 clash with Marumo Gallants, Mokwena said: “Terrence is back. He is
on the green grass and he has played a couple of friendly games for us.
It’s a little bit difficult because there is some form of medical history
with regards to the injury that he picked up last time and it’s a little
bit delicate because you could go into a space of developing a chronic
situation. So, we have to take it a little bit easy and tread carefully on
that situation. Fortunately, we have a very experienced medical team. That
space as qualified people in regards to management of injuries, so he is
on the green grass now and he is working hard to regain form and
confidence and gradual match fitness to be able to compete for a position.
It’s not going to be easy because there’s very good players in that
position who have done well, like (Aubrey) Modiba and Sifiso Ngobeni. He
now has to compete for the space. But, of course, he is a very good
player. We look forward to his return, but we have to tread carefully
because of the type of injury he picked up and the history that is related
to that injury.”

Mokwena also gave an update on midfielder Lebohang Maboe, who has not
made an appearance in 2023: “Lebo is still out with an injury and still
working very hard on his rehabilitation.”
