Scott Chickelday, former striker coach at Orlando Pirates, has expressed
his confidence in Monnapule Saleng winning the Player of the Season award
in the PSL.
Chickelday, who had the opportunity to watch Saleng in action for five
weeks, has highlighted the traits that make the 24-year-old stand out.
“With Saleng, I think what he has is he plays without fear, which is what
I love about him, he doesn’t fear anyone, you know, 1V1, he’s very
confident,” said Chickelday in an interview with PSLSA.

“He’s confident in front of goal, he shoots from various angles and for
me, he was one of the most exciting players that I’ve seen in my time in
South Africa, in the PSL. I thought he was a fantastic player. He’s a
great human being, he’s a really nice guy and yeah, I think he has
everything. He’s such a good player, and like I said, I would be very
surprised if he didn’t win Player Of The Year this season.”
Chickelday also noted that Saleng’s numbers are very balanced, with nine
goals and four assists in all competitions for Pirates this season. He
also praised Saleng for being a rounded player, capable of both scoring
and creating goals.
“With Saleng, it’s not just about his goals, I think he has about eight
assists or something like that as well, so he’s very rounded and his
numbers are very balanced. He scores goals and he creates goals, so again,
that’s what’s really sort of stood out for me,” he said.
Scott Chickelday is confident that Monnapule Saleng will be crowned the
Player of the Season in the PSL, and with his impressive stats and rounded
playing style, it’s easy to see why.
