Bafana Bafana, the South African national football team, have announced
their preliminary squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
later this month. The team, led by head coach Hugo Broos, will be looking
to make up for their disappointing start to the qualifiers, after they
were defeated by Morocco in June.
The team will be taking on Liberia in Orlando Stadium on 24 March, before
travelling to Monrovia for the second tie against the Liberians. Rising
star Cassius Mailula of Mamelodi Sundowns has been included in the squad,
as well as Al Ahly attacker Percy Tau, who has been in fine form in Egypt.
Coach Broos will confirm his final 23-man squad at a later date before
they go into camp on Sunday, 19 March. The full preliminary squad, which
includes goalkeepers Ronwen Williams, Veli Mothwa, Brandon Petersen and
Ricardo Goss, defenders Nyiko Mobbie, Khuliso Mudau, Siyanda Msani,
Innocent Maela, Taariq Fielies, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thapelo Morena, Aubrey
Modiba, Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Thapelo Maseko and Siyanda Xulu,
midfielders Miguel Timm, Sphelele Mkhulise, Grant Margeman, Teboho
Mokoena, Monnapule Saleng, Khanyiso Mayo, Pule Mmodi and Themba Zwane, and
forwards Zakhele Lepasa, Cassius Mailula, Mihlali, Mayambela, Bongokuhle
Hlongwane, Fagrie Lakay, Lyle Foster, Percy Tau and Kobamelo Kodisang, can
be seen below.
Bafana Bafana will be hoping to get their qualifying campaign back on
track with a strong showing against Liberia, as they look to secure a
place at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
