Kaizer Chiefs have yet to score a goal in 2021, a worrying sign for coach Arthur Zwane’s side. However, the coach has revealed why he is not putting pressure on the club’s latest recruit to solve their goalscoring woes.
Last week, Chiefs announced the capture of Congolese striker Christian Saile Basomboli from Nchanga Rangers.
The 22-year-old has managed to score seven goals in 18 matches in the Zambian Premier League this season.
Speaking to journalists after their loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, Zwane said: “We expect Christian to come in and hit the ground running, but also, we don’t want to put him under pressure because there’s many other players who can take responsibility, that’s why I’m saying, we’re just not hitting the target, not that we don’t get to the final third.”
The coach went on to say that while his side have been creating chances, they have been too hasty in the final third, and need to show more composure in order to turn their fortunes around.
“Sometimes, we are too hasty, we need a bit of composure inside the box, an extra touch on the ball and that will help us going forward,” Zwane said. With the Glamour Boys now in sixth position on the DStv Premiership standings, they will be hoping to turn their form around when they face Royal AM next.
