Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gift Motupa could be leaving the club in January, the Siya crew has learned from sources close to the club. Despite signing a one-year contract extension in October, which will see his deal run up to June 2025, Motupa is believed to be out of the current Sundowns technical team’s plans.
As previously reported by PSLSA, Motupa is on the wanted list of two or three Premiership teams. Sources close to the Brazilians have indicated that the club is ready to release the striker, although it is unclear whether it will be on loan or permanently.
The former BidVest Wits striker joined Sundowns in 2020 on an initial four-year contract which expires in June 2024. According to sources, Chippa United and Polokwane City have both shown interest in the 29-year-old. However, the second source suggests that Polokwane City may have been unable to sign him due to his salary.
PSLSA contacted Sundowns for comment but received no response while preparing this story.
