Orlando Pirates have stepped up their pursuit of an influential midfielder from DStv Premiership rivals AmaZulu. The Soweto giants are looking to add Makhehleni Makhaula to their ranks, alongside Cameroonian striker Marou Souaibou, Ndumiso Mabena and Craig Martin who have already joined Jose Riveiro’s team.

As reported in December, Pirates had been monitoring the central midfielder’s situation and were expected to make a move for him. However, despite some reports suggesting that the 33-year-old might have already signed a pre-contract with the Buccaneers, sources close to the situation have indicated that Makhaula remains committed to Usuthu, with his contract situation still unchanged.
The KwaZulu-Natal side’s midfielder will see his deal expire at the end of June. He joined AmaZulu in 2020 from Highlands Park.
“Pirates is still interested in the player. However, the player’s future will be decided as the season progresses, or at the end of the campaign,” said the source.
