Premiership club Stellenbosch FC have bolstered their midfield with the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke. Matsheke, who was loaned out to Swallows FC (now Moroka Swallows) last season by Amakhosi, has signed a one-year deal with an option to extend for another campaign.
Speaking on the signing, Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker said: “Darrel adds quality and depth to our midfield positions, specifically as a defensive midfielder. He is technically sound, plays with a lot of energy and intensity, and has the ability to break down attacks, and once he has done that he has the ability to then progress the ball either through the quality of his passing or by carrying the ball.”
Matsheke comes in as a replacement for the departed Sibongiseni Mthethwa and looks set to make his debut after the international break.
The signing of Matsheke is another indication of Stellenbosch’s ambitions to compete in the Premiership and follows the recent acquisition of former Bafana Bafana international Siyabonga Nomvethe.
