Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki is delighted to see Edson Castillo receive recognition from his home country of Venezuela.
Castillo, who joined Chiefs earlier this year, has been called up to the Venezuelan National Team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Chile.
Ntseki, who has experience as a national team coach, understands the importance of representing one’s country and is proud to see Castillo and the other four Chiefs players away on international duty – Edmilson Dove, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Mduduzi Mdantsane – representing the Amakhosi brand.
“It’s good because as a former national team coach, I understand the importance of representing your country and I think it’s also important for those players to represent the brand Kaizer Chiefs. Castillo has been out of the Venezuelan national team for some time, but seeing him get a call-up means that there is something right that we are doing and there is something right that he is doing. We are very happy and proud with those ambassadors who have been selected to represent their national teams,” Ntseki said.
The 29-year-old Castillo has made 12 appearances for Chiefs so far this season, scoring four goals. His form has not gone unnoticed beyond the borders of South Africa, with the Venezuelan national team scouts keeping a close eye on him since his arrival.
“I think the (Venezuelan) national team scouts have been following Castillo since he arrived at Kaizer Chiefs. We’ve played him in different positions and he has scored goals for us. It’s good for him and for his national team to bring somebody like him who has so much confidence. He has scored important goals for Kaizer Chiefs,” Ntseki said.
