Orlando Pirates have continued to provide opportunities for young players to prove themselves in the first team, with the latest being midfielder Tebogo Masemola. The 19-year-old has been training with the main squad, with the senior technical team reportedly pleased with what they have seen so far.
A source close to the club told PSLSA: “They are giving more youngsters the chance to be with the senior team with the hope of promotion. They want to do what they did in the time of Senzo Meyiwa, Happy Jele, Lebohang Mokoena, Gift Leremi, Benedict Vilakazi, Joseph Makhanya, to mention but a few. That’s why you see the team bringing up more players from the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team to train with the senior team. Now they are giving Tebogo (Masemola) the chance as well.”
Another source added that DDC coach Joseph Makhanya has been tasked with identifying young talent that needs to be promoted. “Yes, (Tebogo) is very good. He is still young with a lot still to learn. That’s why they have given him the chance to train with the first team so that the coaches can look at him and see what he can do after they have seen him. But knowing him, he will make it just like the way Relebohile (Mofokeng) has done it,” the source concluded.
PSLSA contacted Pirates for comment but received no response while preparing this story.
