On Tuesday evening, Cape Town City FC secured a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, a result which saw Eric Tinkler become the most successful coach against Amakhosi in the DStv Premiership. Having faced them 24 times in total, Tinkler has won 12 of those matches with four different teams: SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Maritzburg United and now the Citizens.
Tinkler opened up on the record, saying, “I’ve been fortunate enough to have coached some great teams in my career, and I’ve had the opportunity to face Kaizer Chiefs many times. I’m proud that I’ve been able to come out with a win more often than not, and it’s a testament to the hard work of the players and the coaching staff.”
The result saw City move to fourth on the DStv Premiership standings, while Chiefs remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Tinkler is hopeful that the win will provide the team with the confidence to push on for the remainder of the season.
“It’s been a tough season so far, but the win against Chiefs will give us the confidence to push on and fight for a top-four finish,” he said. “We’re still a long way from where we want to be, but this result is a step in the right direction.”
