On Saturday afternoon, Iqraam Rayners’ brace helped Stellenbosch FC to a 2-1 victory over Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership.
The Natal Rich Boyz were looking to get back to winning ways after failing to win their last five league matches.
They welcomed back Somila Ntsundwana and Sanele Barns to the attack as they looked to take all three points.
Stellies, meanwhile, recalled Sibongiseni Mthethwa in place of Athenkosi Mcaba who dropped to the bench.
The game’s first big chance fell to the home side in the 28th minute when Ntsundwana was slipped through on goal, but Stellies shot-stopper Sage Stephens came up with the block.
The away side broke the deadlock just before the break as Iqraam Rayners continued his fairytale return with his fourth goal for Stellies. Rayners doubled his tally and Stellenbosch’s lead eight minutes after the restart as he combined with Junior Mendieta.
Richards Bay responded with a double change for the final 25 minutes as Yanela Mbuthuma and Luvuyo Memela replaced Ntsundwana and Barns.
The home side pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute when Memela converted from the penalty spot after Ibraheem Jabaar’s foul in the box.
The win sees the Western Cape outfit climb to ninth position on the table, while Richards Bay find themselves in fourth position after extending their winless run to six matches.
