Kaizer Chiefs’ Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates last Saturday saw the potential for a new strike partnership to emerge at Amakhosi. In search of a second consecutive victory over their arch-rivals, coach Arthur Zwane threw everything he had at Pirates, including the club’s two lanky forwards, Caleb Bimenyimana and Christian Saile.
The match eventually ended in a 1-0 win for Chiefs thanks to an Olisah Ndah own goal. However, the deployment of the two forwards has sparked speculation that Chiefs could be looking to use a traditional 4-4-2 system going forward.
Bimenyimana, who has scored seven goals for Chiefs this season, expressed his willingness to work with Saile, who has one goal and one assist this season. “I think that I can play with anyone they put there, even if it is Chris. He is a good player. I know that in some games we’ll play together,” Bimenyimana said.
Whether the partnership is one that will be considered towards the end of the season remains to be seen. However, with Zwane not afraid to throw in two of his big boys at the same time, it could be a partnership that Chiefs fans will be treated to more of in the future.
