Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has provided a positive update on the return of attacker Khanyisa Mayo. The 24-year-old striker, who has scored four goals and two assists this season, has been absent from the Citizens’ line-ups for the past three matches due to injury.
Mayo sustained the injury in a match against SuperSport United last month and has since missed the following matches against Orlando Pirates, Chippa United and TS Galaxy. However, with City set to face Stellenbosch FC in the Western Cape derby this evening, Mayo is expected to make his return.
Speaking to the media last week, Tinkler said: “Khanyisa had his first training session on Thursday (last week). When I say training, (he’s been) back with a full team (and) came through it no issues.”
Cape Town City will be looking to make a statement in the Western Cape derby and Mayo’s return could prove to be decisive. Fans can bet on the match at TAB with a likely pool of R3 million and a R500,000 cash boost.
