Former PSL Official Making Strides in New Position…

On Friday, former topflight administrator Gordon Masondo spoke to the Siya Crew about the latest developments in Pro Beach Soccer, the first of its kind in South Africa.

During his time in the elite league, Masondo held roles at some of the top clubs, including Mpumalanga Black Aces and Golden Arrows, where he was lauded for his work.

Nowadays, Masondo is in the forefront of the Pro Beach Soccer League, and his work has been commendable. He confirmed to the Siya Crew that the league is set to host its first ever women’s competition this weekend.

“We are starting the ladies’ league of beach soccer. It’s starting this weekend and it’s comprising of eight teams thus far and it will be ongoing until 11 March. It’s the first of its kind and we have decided to give it a run for that duration and we will take it from there,” said Masondo.

He went on to add that from September, the men’s and women’s leagues will begin simultaneously and run until April 2024. Masondo also expressed his plans to include other provinces in the league and grow the sport in the country.

“The authorities in Durban have been supportive in helping us with the facilities to make it possible for the sport to be played. The progress we have made has rubbed off to the national team as we have been doing well as the country at that level,” concluded Masondo, who is the Pro Beach Soccer League President.
