On Friday, Orlando Pirates were knocked out of the CAF Champions League after losing on penalties to Jwaneng Galaxy in the preliminary round.
Former striker Jacky ‘Styles’ Ledwaba believes this is a red flag for the team and the club needs to make changes before it’s too late.
“I think the technical team is relaxed,” Ledwaba said in an interview with PSLSA. “If you look at the way they approach games and mainly the Mamelodi Sundowns game. The starting line-up can change and have a better one. You saw that there was no attempts at goal from our main striker Zakele Lepasa and Kermit Eramus is on the bench. They you are using Nalini while you have Karim Kumvuidi. Why are you not playing Kumvuidi? Look at what he did in the ten minutes against Sundowns? Then the next game you put him on the bench. Why?”
“That’s why I am saying the technical team is not doing well. The supporters are crying. That’s when you see that this is a red flag. You know soccer is like a river. It doesn’t flow backwards but forward, so last season’s results mean nothing this season. Even if you win 45-0 today and lose 1-0 tomorrow people will remember what you have lost.”
“The technical team must wake up. Or maybe even the players attitudes are not good. Maybe the mood in the camp is not good. Everyone has to work on that and come to the party and change things as soon as they can. We need results as a team. Imagine going to the MTN8 cup final like this. It won’t be good,” Ledwaba concluded.
