Mamelodi Sundowns have been a force to be reckoned with in the CAF
Champions League in recent years, having scored five goals against Al Ahly
on two separate occasions. The Tshwane giants have also registered some
other impressive wins in the competition, and PSLSA looks back at some of
the club’s biggest victories.

In the 2018/19 qualifying rounds, Sundowns hammered Libyan side Al Ahli
Benghazi 4-0 at Loftus Stadium, thanks to goals from Gaston Sirino, Jeremy
Brockie, Anthony Laffor and Jose Ali Meza.
The following season, Sundowns delivered a show-stopping performance in an
11-1 win against Cote d’Or at Loftus. In the first leg clash, they had
beaten the club from Seychelles 5-0, so they won the tie 16-1 on
aggregate.
Sundowns registered one of their biggest victories away from home when
they hammered Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad 5-1 in the 2020/21 campaign.
Themba Zwane bagged a brace and the party was joined by Peter Shalulile,
Lebohang Maboe and Kermit Erasmus, who got their names on the scoresheet.
Earlier this season, before the group stages, Sundowns cruised to an 8-1
victory in the second leg qualifying round clash against La Passe from
Seychelles, inspired by a hat-trick from young Cassius Mailula. The first
leg away from home saw Sundowns registering a 7-0 win, as they won the tie
15-1 on aggregate.
Sundowns have proven to be a formidable side in the CAF Champions League,
and will be hoping to build on these victories to finally get the second
star they have been trying to get since 2016.
