Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane expressed delight with the impact of new signing Christian Saile Basomboli on his debut against Royal AM.
The Congolese striker was brought on in the second half and provided the assist for Ashley du Preez’s goal which sealed the win in the 85th minute.
Speaking to SuperSport after the game, Zwane said, “He gave us the extra oomph we were looking for. We were so much aggressive, we gave them no space, we were pressing them, we knew that we’ll win that midfield battle, we just needed to be a little bit aggressive going forward. When he came on he gave us that, that’s why we managed to score the second goal.”
When asked if he was relieved to get the first win of the year, Zwane responded, “Not really, I’ve always said I didn’t come to this game as a coach under pressure and all that, because I know that we’ve been doing well to be quite honest and we’ve just been not scoring goals. And also conceding goals we shouldn’t have, sometimes sloppy defending let us down but when you look at the games this season (year) we were just unfortunate not to win most of them, even that game against Sundowns.”
The coach went on to say, “But I’m happy for the boys more than me, don’t worry about me, I’ve always been in this game, as long as we do the job, we know what’s the plan, it’s about that, it’s about the future of this club.”
