Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has compared his relationship with former Sundowns coach and current Al Ahli Jeddah manager, Pitso Mosimane, to that of Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola. Despite speculation of a ‘spicy’ relationship, Mokwena has spoken highly of Mosimane, referring to him as a mentor, father figure and close family friend.
The duo worked together during their time at Sundowns, achieving numerous trophies as Mosimane honed the skills of his younger counterpart. Although there was talk of the two reconnecting in Egypt when Mosimane took up the task of leading Al Ahly, Mokwena opted to remain at Sundowns, where he has since become the head coach.
“I can only speak in glowing terms,” Mokwena said in response to Mosimane’s praise. “I consider coach Pitso not just a mentor, but a father figure for sure, and because he played with my father, he did. They shared the pitch. He is a very close family friend
