Basomboli’s introduction as a second half substitute proved to be a master stroke by coach Arthur Zwane, and the 22-year-old managed to deliver on the anticipation. He showed an aggressive press on the opposition defence, and even managed to tee up Ashley Du Preez for Chiefs’ second goal. It appears that Basomboli could make both Du Preez and Bimenyimana better players.
Basomboli was better suited to the right-hand side of Chiefs’ attack, where he managed to get an assist on debut. He also showed a decent change of pace and skill, with the jubilant Chiefs fans boosting his confidence. With 19 goals in the 2021/22 season, it appears that it’s only a matter of time before he finds the back of the net for Chiefs.
