On Thursday, AmaZulu confirmed the immediate transfer of their captain Makhehleni Makhaula to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. Initially, the Buccaneers had signed the hard-working midfielder on a pre-contract, but an agreement was reached between the two clubs for the former Highlands Park player to join before the close of the January transfer window.
In a statement, Usuthu thanked Makhaula for his service over the past two years. President Sandile Zungu said, “Makhaula leaves with our full blessings. He served the club very well as captain and was the recipient of the President’s and the player’s player of the year awards two seasons ago with merit.”
Makhaula joins a Pirates side that has plenty of competition in the middle of the park, with the likes of Thabang Monare, Miguel Timm and Ben Motswari as options for head coach Jose Riveiro. Earlier on Tuesday, Pirates had also confirmed that striker Zakhele Lepasa had joined SuperSport United on loan for the rest of the season.
Pirates have now officially confirmed the acquisition of Makhaula.
