Kaizer Chiefs secured a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Soweto
Derby on Saturday.
The only goal of the game came in the 85th minute when Olisa Ndah turned
the ball into his own net. Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was named Man of
the Match, and he revealed that shutting down Pirates’ attacking threats
was key to the win.
Dove, who was making his return to the Chiefs line-up after missing their
game against Golden Arrows through illness, said that the team had to
remain compact and move as a unit to negate the threat of Pirates’ wide
players, Monnapule Saleng, Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule.
“We knew that we had to deal with their wide players, you know
[Monnapule] Saleng is fast, (Vincent) Pule was there, [Thembinkosi] Lorch
and I guess what worked for us is keeping a compact back-line and making
sure that we move on as a team,” Dove said.
The victory sees Chiefs complete the league double over their arch-rivals
and move to within one point of the top of the DStv Premiership standings.
