Coach’s Call: Bucs Encourages Resurgent Star to Emulate Saleng’s Path

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has urged one of the club’s resurgent stars, Terrence Dzvukumanja, to follow in the footsteps of Monnapule Saleng and make the most of his opportunities. Dzvukumanja has experienced an upturn in fortunes at the club, leading to the club’s U-Turn on their decision to send him out on loan to SuperSport United.

Saleng was in a similar predicament to the Zimbabwean at the start of the campaign. Having returned from a season-long loan spell with Swallows, the speedster made the most of his opportunity against Mamelodi Sundowns, and has since scored seven goals.

Riveiro has now encouraged the Zimbabwean to continue with his rich vein of form that has seen him feature in Pirates’ three-match winning run.

“We live in a competitive environment not only when we go to the matches. That’s something that we should understand. We come in every morning, the players are coming hungry, to train well, to express themselves on the field and show that they are prepared to train and they are prepared to understand the needs of the week, the needs the needs of the game,” Riveiro said at the club’s media day.

“When we gave the opportunity, for Monnapule to come in, it was not a throw of a coin and see what happened. We knew that the boy was prepared for that. Because it’s under our eyes. Our monitoring during the week and we know what’s coming then. The competition is what it is, and many things can happen and sometimes things do not go the way we expect.
