Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has spoken about the complexity of having several quality players to choose from for official matches.
In recent weeks, the Buccaneers have had almost all team’s stars back in training and available for selection after recovering from their respective injuries. The likes of Thembinkosi Lorch and Richard Ofori are some of the stars that have returned to give the Spanish mentor options in selecting his line-ups for the upcoming matches.
“Obviously, we have a very good squad, I can’t complain. Quality players everywhere is a headache for the coach to decide which one is the best one. We’re not playing FIFA (PlayStation), we don’t simulate games, it’s difficult, that’s the complexity of my job and that’s why they brought me here and that’s why there’s difference between coaches because you have to manage all of these aspects,” said Riveiro, speaking to the media after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I’m happy to have this level in the squad, I really enjoy every training session because they are so good. But unfortunately, I have to choose only 11 and if you can see the players who are not even making the 20 list you can imagine how difficult it is. But at the same time I would like to have everybody ready to play and that would help me to get close to the point where we want to be right now and also thinking in the mid-term future,” the coach added.
The return of the Pirates stars has given Riveiro a selection headache, as he attempts to make the best out of the quality players available to him. With the abundance of talent, the Spanish mentor will have to make difficult decisions in order to ensure that the team is successful in their upcoming fixtures.
