On Friday, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena hinted that a recently vacated position in the technical team could already be filled. Sundowns had parted ways with fitness and conditioning coach Riedoh Berdien and assistant goalkeeper coach Marcus Mashilo in December last year.
Mokwena confirmed that veteran shot-stopper Kennedy Mweene stood in for goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson, who was suspended against Orlando Pirates and is being trained to join the technical team. The young tactician said that Mweene has applied for his coaching badges and has the experience to fill the role. He has won the (CAF) Champions League, AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia).
Mokwena congratulated Mweene for his first win as a goalkeeper coach, in the interim capacity. He said, “God works in incredible ways by giving people opportunities even when we deem ourselves not ready but God says when I deem you ready, I choose you, you have to step up and respond to the calling. He did very well, congratulations to him for winning his first match on the bench as a goalkeeper coach for sure in the interim capacity and we wanna thank him for his contribution and assistance for the role that he has played.”
