Mamelodi Sundowns will start the defence of their Nedbank Cup title on Tuesday evening when they take on Richards Bay in the Last 32 of the competition. The Brazilians won the cup last season, edging Marumo Gallants 2-1 in the final, setting a new record tally of titles in this competition to four under the current sponsors.
Sundowns are all but guaranteed the league title this season with a 23-point lead at the top of the table after a narrow 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates this past Saturday. The sides met at this stage last season as Sundowns thrashed Richards Bay, who were campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the time.
The Natal Rich Boyz are on a slump of three games without a win after they narrowly lost 1-0 against Swallows the last time out. Richards Bay competed better in the first round meeting in early January last month, although they went on to lose 2-0 to Sundowns, who have won all their league games since September last year.
The match will take place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday, 07 February 2023, with kick-off scheduled for 19h30.
