On Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane addressed speculation that the current crop of players at the club are struggling to cope with the pressure from supporters. The Glamour Boys recently drew 0-0 with TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium, which was almost filled to capacity.
Zwane admitted that some of the new players in the team may be having difficulty managing the expectations that come with playing for Chiefs, one of the most supported teams in the country. He said: “I think when it comes to players it’s a case of adaptation you know, players they learn differently, some will find it difficult to settle quickly because of the pressure that comes with being a Kaizer Chiefs player. So it’s us now as the technical team, how do we help them to settle in quickly and understand the meaning of playing for a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre.”
The head coach added that players today respond and adapt differently to pressure than they used to, and that it is the job of the coaching staff to help the players grow and develop both on and off the field. With the Nedbank Cup the immediate focus, the pressure is on Chiefs to deliver their first trophy since 2015 and end their winless trophy run.
