On Saturday night, Orlando Pirates secured their spot in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 with a 2-0 victory over Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars FC.
The Buccaneers had to play the final half-hour of the match without their Spanish head coach, Jose Riviero, who was shown a straight red card by the referee. Mandla Ncikazi, the Pirates assistant coach, gave some insight as to why he believes Riviero received the red card.
According to Ncikazi, the officials mentioned that the language used by Riviero was not permissible in the field of play. Despite the difficult field conditions, Ncikazi was pleased that the Buccaneers managed to score in the second half and progress to the next round.
He said that the conditions were not suitable for the type of game they wanted to play, but he was happy that they managed to struggle through and win the match.
